Connecting to the World
FWA has a special focus on connecting students from around the world through learning projects, promoting peer-to-peer learning and preparing FWA students to live, work and play in the global environment of the 21st century. Global partnerships not only assist students master rigorous academic content in a highly motivating manner, they also offer firsthand, cross-cultural perspectives students otherwise would not experience. A few examples of the educational, worldwide connections happening at FWA include:

  • Antarctica – Kindergarten students enjoy connecting with research centers while studying penguins.
  • USA, Scotland, Canada and Japan – Second grade math students compare and contrast data they generate and contribute to a collective Excel spreadsheet with students in all four countries.
  • Kingdom of Bahrain – Third grade students expand their cultural understanding with peers in Bahrain.
  • New Brunswick, Canada – Seventh grade science students collaborate with peers in rural New Brunswick, and teach each other about their respective ecosystems.
  • Dubai – Eighth grade English students compare notes on a wiki space with peers in the UAE.
  • Peru – Middle school Spanish students practice their language skills with peers in Peru, while those in Peru practice their English.
  • Spain – Third grade Spanish students exchange bilingual videos of personal introduction and a virtual tour of campus with peers in Oviedo, Spain.

Entrepreneurship
Energy, vision, optimism and daring are qualities found in ample supply on any elementary or middle school campus. Children are naturally creative and accept the risk as a way of learning. Fort Worth Academy has long realized this about K-8 students. Using their natural entrepreneurial qualities as a catalyst, FWA develops programs that enrich and expand each student’s educational experience, such as Entrepreneur Day, the Entrepreneur Speaker Series and class trips to the Free Enterprise Institute in Waco.

Entrepreneurship is a strand of curriculum that flows from kindergarten to eighth grade, all year long.  Students come to understand the critical attributes of entrepreneurship: creativity, determination and ambition.  Through research and face-to-face interaction with successful business and social entrepreneurs, they also come to appreciate the significant contributions entrepreneurs can make to the quality of life.  Students are encouraged to treasure and develop their own ideas, interests, affinities and talents, realizing that these gifts and strengths have the potential to one day become vocations of great passion.
