Preparing your children for their tomorrow... today!

Forth Worth Academy
Lower School

During the Lower School years, classroom experiences help students form habits and attitudes toward learning that will remain with them for a lifetime. Lower School students explore their capabilities through a wide variety of experiential, hands-on activities. Math labs, writing centers, social studies and access to laptops for individual use invite children to explore new possibilities.

Reading and Language Arts
Best described as a “literature-based, process approach,” students progress from a strong foundation in phonics, to literature experiences with both classic selections and popular trade books. The connection between reading and writing is brought to life for students in an active workshop format. In the Library/Discovery Center, students enjoy exploring the wonders of reading and learning in a beautiful, sun-filled space.

Science
Science is uniquely special for our younger students at Fort Worth Academy. The majority of science instruction takes place in a laboratory specifically designed and staffed for young children. Classroom teachers address science concepts in the classroom, and twice weekly they venture to the science lab. Our own elementary science specialist and microbiologist greets them with active, and many times ‘messy,’ opportunities to explore the wonders of the world in which we live.

Mathematics
Concepts are addressed in a meaningful context with strong foci on time, measurement, money, geometry, reasoning, strategies and critical thinking. Experiences with three-dimensional manipulative materials are essential to understanding.

Social Studies
Instruction in Lower School addresses American history, Texas history, history of the City of Fort Worth, current events, and substantial study of geography and global awareness.

Enrichment Classes
Directed by teachers specialized in their field, Spanish, physical education, performing arts, and visual arts enhance the core curriculum of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.
