Forth Worth Academy
Visual Arts

Creative expression through the visual arts is an integral aspect of the FWA experience. Students explore the basic modes of visual expression through a variety of media such as acrylic painting, watercolor, printmaking, and sculpting with clay. Lower school students work with familiar material to build a foundation while gaining confidence. They naturally enjoy working with their hands and finding new ways to express themselves. As technical skills increase, students receive instruction in composition, perspective, light, color and design in a variety of ways, including:

The visual art area is specially-designed, complete with a slab roller, five potters’ wheels, a kiln, and equipment for projects including silk screen, print-making and paper-making. A performing arts area with stage is located in the cafetorium and a dedicated area for music classes from K-8 and middle school band rehearsal needs is located in the main building.

Printmaking
Middle school students are encouraged to explore simple and complex forms of printmaking.

Ceramics
Students study ceramics through several methods of production including hand-building skills, slab construction, use of the potter’s wheel and glazing and firing techniques.

Drawing and Painting
Experiences with drawing and painting mediums allow students to experiment firsthand with concepts such as positive and negative space and perspective.

Art Appreciation and History
Artistic experiences are not limited to classroom activities. Art appreciation and history are emphasized throughout the year and enhanced by field trips to area art museums and exhibitions.
