Fort Worth Academy is committed to developing both strong bodies and strong minds. Our robust athletics and physical education programs round out our exceptional curriculum, supporting our goal to help children explore their potential in all areas. All students take part in P.E., and beginning in Middle School students have the opportunity to participate in competitive athletics.

Philosophy

Fort Worth Academy firmly believes in the value of a comprehensive education. Physical education and athletics are critically important components of the Fort Worth Academy experience.

Physical education is required. Every student at every grade participates in physical
education every day. The curriculum is sequential and includes skill development,
cooperative and competitive activities, wellness, and lifetime fitness. It is a program of
equal opportunity for all students.

Athletics includes all sports and cheerleading. Middle School students are strongly
encouraged to participate in at least one season of athletics during the year.
Students who indicate a desire to participate do so with a solid understanding of the
following:

  1. Participation in all athletic activities is a privilege and is dependent upon
maintenance of academic and behavioral standards.
  2. The coaching staff will make every effort to accommodate every student who indicates a desire to come out for a sport. Participation in certain sports is limited.
  3. Athletics are gender-fair at Fort Worth Academy.
  4. Interscholastic competition in grades 5 and 6 is considered a first opportunity for students to exercise their athletic abilities in competition against students from another school. Therefore, all team members will participate. The coaching staff will make every effort to be fair and just in the amount of playing time.
  5. Interscholastic competition in grades 7 and 8 is defined as a healthy rivalry between schools where the objective is to defeat the opponent on the court/playing field. Therefore, decisions as to which students play, and for what length of time, will be made by the coach with the aforementioned objective in mind. The coaching staff recognizes the desirability of playing time and will make every effort to provide time for all players. There is, however, no guarantee of equity in playing time and the possibility exists that a player or players may not play at all.
  6. The coaching staff recognizes the critical role played by team members from the bench. Encouragement, attention and readiness are expected.
  7. Participation in practice is a prerequisite for participation in athletics.
  8. Good sportsmanship is a prerequisite for participation in competition as well as for continued team membership. Team members are expected to win without boasting and lose without bitterness. Respect for the coaching staffs, for team members, opponents, officials and fans is required at all times and under all circumstances.
  9. Athletes are expected to be good stewards of the facility and the equipment at all times – at home and away.
  10. Good sportsmanship, encouragement and support are also expected from the Fort Worth Academy coaching staff and Fort Worth Academy fans at all times under all circumstances. Good sportsmanship includes respect for the decisions of the Fort Worth Academy athletic department officials, for all team members and for opponents.

Physical Education

All students attend physical education classes five days a week. We emphasize skills, fitness, participation, teamwork and competition. Students participate in age-appropriate activities and competitive games, building social and leadership skills and gaining self-confidence. Our goal is to involve students in experiences that help them develop as a whole, including physical health, wellness and a positive self-image.

Athletic Facilities

Fort Worth Academy offers many opportunities for students to engage in sports and other physical activities. Our facilities are designed to meet the needs of all students and serve as the sites for several tournaments throughout the year, with basketball and volleyball tournaments held in the gymnasium. Talbott Fields include a regulation baseball/softball diamond, a regulation football/soccer field and field house.
